Gillingswators: "The inspiration for producing Weavers comes from Los Angeles artist Baila Goldenthal's enigmatic Weavers Series paintings and her daughter Maurya Simon's fifteen ekphrastic poems. Goldenthal's work has been shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Skirball Museum of Art, the Aldridge Museum of Contemporary Art in Connecticut, and in many solo and group exhibitions. Simon is the author of six books of poetry, and Ghost Orchid was nominated for a 2004 National Book Award in Poetry. Accompanying each poem is a tipped-in color copy of a photograph of Goldenthal's painting."
