Written in 1950, The Good Lion was a return to the genre of the fable. We follow the good lion on his sojourn through Africa where he is at odds with the other lions and narrowly escapes death. Back in Venice, the good lion takes comfort in old friends and a glass of pomodoro but finds he has been changed by his experience. This story is Hemingway's response to a direct challenge from Scapinelli, who challenged him to write a children's story for her son. $175 |
