One book remains in Jennie Hinchcliff’s series “The Seven Deadly Sins” – Sloth. The series consists of seven pieces; each piece is one of a kind: “Anger”, “Lust”, “Avarice”, “Envy”, “Gluttony” and “Pride”. All are mixed media pieces, with imaging and layout done in Photoshop. Printing done on an HP DeskJet 712C printer.
Jennie: "Modern day virtues or age-old vices? These days it is hard to tell where to draw the line. As consumers, viewers, human beings, we are bombarded with a constant stream of wants, needs, questions, and desires. It is up to us to weigh and measure those things we deem “sinful”—everything from Hagen Daas ice cream to pornography. In this series, I chose to explore the eternal question of what it is that makes the seven deadly sins so deadly, especially when set forth next to our modern standards. Has our perspective shifted so much that we can no longer readily discern the difference between virtue and vice? The works in this series represent the intriguing and tangible qualities that such questions set forth. Through the use of seductive and tactile materials, I recreate a certain essence of each individual sin as I interpret it. Sometimes the use of these materials may be symbolic; sometimes they may evoke a certain memory or feeling. I hope to lure the viewer into the work with opulence and evocative textual imagery. In this way, the viewer can question the true meaning of the piece while considering the motive of the work."
