Wolfgang Lederer, introduction: "What sets folk art objects apart from what is simply called 'art' is that they are recognizable as coming from a certain country or area, but not from a particular period, and they do not aim to project the style of an individual artist. Whoever created them simply took over a tradition in producing a typical appearance without any desire to emphasize his or her personality. Most evident is a desire to give even everyday objects and toys an enjoyable appearance or convey festive and religious feelings or add decoration to rooms...."

23 countries are represented in Lederer's homage to folk art.
