Jessie Nebraska Gifford (1932) artist and printmaker collaborated with Purgatory Pie Press to produce this one sheet editioned book as part of her MS Series. The book was conceived by the artist; the basis of the images and text are MRI scans of her brain and spine. Esther K. Smith composed the poetic text as well as the book design. Dikko Faust handset the text from metal type and made photopolymer plates from Gifford's scans. The book was conceived in a collaboration among the three artists, referencing Gifford's computer-based work she had been making with her MRI scans. The images are printed from photo-engravings made directly from MRI scans of Gifford's brain and spine. Esther K. Smith wrote the poem and designed the book. Dikko Faust letterpress printed from his hand-set metal type and the photopolymer plates he made from Gifford's scans.
